By now it’s been thoroughly screwed into your head that the fear of public speaking is real.  We don’t have to throw statistics around.  We don’t have to tell stories.  We all know that palms start to sweat, brains start to scramble, and throats get dry when the bright spot light shines our way.

People generally fear public speaking because they don’t want to look bad.  Let’s be honest.  The greatest fear in the world isn’t public speaking.  The greatest fear in the world is looking terrible in front of other people.

Here’s a quick tip to help you get over it.

Find positive energy sources in the audience.  In an audience of 15-20 people there are bound to be at least 2-3 people that give off a positive vibe.  These people smile, nod, and give off positive energy throughout your presentation.  Use these people as positive energy sources.  When you need reassurance look directly at them so that you can feed off of their energy.  It’s a great confidence booster and your audience will appreciate it.

The next time you are getting ready to speak do yourself a favor and find your energy sources in the room.  You can thank me later.
